What do I need to consider when changing my TU-AD password (email, Active Directory)?
If you change your TU-AD password, you must also change it wherever the old password is still stored.
An overview of the services for which the TU-AD password is used can be found here: Services and passwords for students.
Before changing your password, think carefully about where it is currently stored – for example, in email programs, in your browser, or on mobile devices.
This is because if a device or program continues to try to log in with the old password in the background, this can quickly lead to multiple failed login attempts. If there are too many failed attempts, your account will be locked for 30 minutes.
If you only access your mailbox from one device, you can simply enter the new password the first time you log in.
However, even if you have saved the password on this device for other TU services, your account may be temporarily locked if you forget to change the new password there as well.
In many cases, the TU-AD password is stored on multiple devices – for example, on PCs, notebooks, cell phones, or tablets. It may also be stored in multiple apps (clients) on one device.
- Before changing your password, consider which devices and programs the old password is stored on.
- Close all these programs or disconnect the devices from the internet. This will prevent a client from connecting to the old password in the background.
- After changing the password, work through one device at a time: reestablish the internet connection or restart the app. Then enter the new password when prompted.
