The roadmap of the LLT-Team

Our roadmap provides an overview of the key goals and priorities for the coming year. It outlines the areas we plan to address in order to further develop our systems, processes, and services.

The purpose of the roadmap is to transparently outline what we are developing and the priorities we are setting. This gives everyone a clear understanding of our current plans and the next steps.

The roadmap is reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed. This allows us to remain flexible and respond to new developments without losing sight of our core focus: modern, stable, and future-proof services that provide the best possible support to the entire TU Wien in its day-to-day operations.

Q3 - of the year 2026

The update to TUWEL 5.2 and other system adjustments are scheduled for August. As usual, there will be a “What’s New in TUWEL 5.2?” document.

This quarter, we're once again working on an Opencast update that will introduce new features and optimizations to ensure smoother operation.

Opencast DACH will take place here at the Vienna University of Technology in September.

The “Lecture Hall Touch Panels” project, which was designed by the UX/UI team and is being implemented in collaboration with the Buildings and Technology (GUT) department, was tested in Q2 and will begin rolling out in the lecture halls this quarter.

MoodleMoot DACH has become a popular event—not just in German-speaking countries—where participants work on “working code” while also having the opportunity to discuss all topics related to the open-source software Moodle. This year, the event will take place at ETH Zurich, and our team is looking forward to it!

With over 6,000 instances of the Grouptool activity, we are constantly working to improve code quality and develop new features. In addition, more tests are being added to TUWEL.

Planning is in full swing for the free Opencast DACH event, which will take place here at TU Wien in September. We have some exciting programs in the works and look forward to sharing updates about the event on our news page afterward.

Q1 - Beginning of the Year 2026

An update to TUWEL 5.1 and other system adjustments are scheduled for February to introduce new features and improve the platform's performance.

In the first quarter of 2026, we will be working on an Opencast update that will introduce new features and optimizations to ensure smoother operation.

As part of the ACEnet Community Course, a first-login questionnaire is provided to assess your needs and prior experience right from the start.

We are conducting a proof of concept (PoC) for Friendly Customer to test the concept and gather real-world feedback.

In 2025, we launched the “Lecture Hall Touch Panels” project, which was designed by the UX/UI team. This is being carried out in collaboration with the Buildings and Technology (GUT) department.

We plan to begin the first round of testing in the lecture halls in the summer of 2026.

The University of Technology in Vienna (TU Wien) is taking over maintenance of ETH's Freehand Drawing plugin in order to further develop it and integrate it into TUWEL.

Q4 - Complete the projects for 2025

We are currently improving an automated grade export feature that makes transferring grades between TUWEL and TISS more efficient.

We are constantly developing and expanding TUWEL with our own local plugins to provide additional features and better support for teaching and learning at TU Wien.

We are currently working to seamlessly integrate BigBlueButton into TU Wien’s existing teaching and learning infrastructure. BigBlueButton is an open-source platform used for virtual classes and online meetings, and it supports features such as presentations, breakout rooms, and chat. We will provide updates on the next steps in the coming quarters.
