MoodleMoot DACH - 2025 Lübeck

MoodleMoot DACH has become a popular event not only in German-speaking countries, where participants work on “working code” and have the opportunity to exchange ideas on all topics related to the open source software Moodle.

MootDACH is an open and free conference for all Moodle users, administrators, teachers, developers, and educators in the higher education sector.

It is the only MoodleMoot worldwide that is held in an open format. Consisting of a 2-day DevCamp and a 2-day BarCamp, this year's MoodleMoot DACH continued the tradition. It stands out from all other MoodleMoot events in that it is free of charge for participants and does not have a pre-determined program. It was organized by a total of eight cooperating institutions. The event has now become an international event, held largely in English.

MoodleMoot DACH DevCamp

The Moodle DevCamp is an open two-day hackathon for all developers, UX experts, QA professionals, and anyone else interested in Moodle. The main goal of the DevCamp is to present and validate your own ideas and turn them into working code within a diverse team. The event begins with an “idea pitching session” where participants present their ideas. After forming teams, participants have the space and time to devote themselves to their projects and their implementation and to produce “working code.” This year in Lübeck, we had 150 participants with 34 pitches and 22 projects that were worked on during the two days.

MoodleMoot DACH BarCamp

“It is an intensive two-day event where Moodle practitioners can learn new skills, exchange ideas with like-minded people, and work on current projects.”

MoodleMoot DACH BarCamp is a two-day unconference for all Moodle users, administrators, teachers, developers, and educators, as well as anyone else who is interested. BarCamp offers all participants an open and free format, with the program being created by the participants themselves during the event. Depending on the speakers' preferences, the presentations are held in either German or English, with everyone having the opportunity to focus on their main interests, contribute topics to the program, or join existing topics. Switching between presentations during the event itself is not only possible but also highly encouraged.

This year, we had over 250 participants in Germany with interesting presentations and exciting discussions. The next MoodleMoot DACH 2026 will take place in Zurich, Switzerland. Our developers experience:

“Attending MoodleMoot DACH 2025 in Lübeck for the first time was an amazing experience. During the DevCamp, I pitched my idea for a Moodle-integrated Pomodoro timer and got the chance to develop it along with four talented developers, turning it into a working prototype over just two days. What made the experience truly special wasn’t just the coding and teamwork, but being part of a lively environment full of ideas, creativity, and inspiration. Meeting skilled developers, exchanging knowledge, and contributing to a shared project reminded me how powerful a community can be and left me energized for what comes next.” - Alissa Cenga (Developer LLT Team)

"At the beginning of September, as part of TU Wien Campus IT, we had the opportunity to participate in MoodleMoot DACH in Lübeck, Germany. As part of this, Alissa Cenga and I were sent as members of the TUWEL development team to participate in DevCamp on site. This year, we worked together with three other participants (two from the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences and one from the Bochum University of Applied Sciences) on our idea of integrating a Pomodoro timer into Moodle. The first day was marked by a few technical hurdles, as the development environment did not work for many of us at first. On the second day, however, we were able to make great progress: we implemented the timer and added a small animation to visualize the learning flow. In the end, we were able to present working code. Even though it wasn't quite enough to win, we were very satisfied with our performance and are already looking forward to the next MoodleMoot DACH!" - Anne Kreppenhofer (Developer LLT team).
