TUnet core software updates 07+09 Sep 2020 [CANCELLED]

On 07 Sep 2020 between 05:00 and 06:00 pm, a software update will be installed on one of the TUnet core routers. The other TUnet core router will be updated on 09 Sep 2020 between 05:00 and 06:00 pm. There should be no service interruptions.

Update 09 Sep 2020 12:15 pm: the upgrade of the Gusshausstraße router, planned for today, will not be performed, since we first wish to clarify a potential stability issue with the Freihaus router with the hardware manufacturer. Once this is completed, we will announce a new date for the Gusshausstraße router upgrade.

Update 07 Sep 2020 06:00 pm: today's update has been completed successfully. Tomorrow, we shall monitor the router closely; if its stability is satisfactory, we will update the other router on Wednesday.

The TUnet core consists of two routers, which constitute the central connection point between the TU Wien buildings, datacenter, WiFi, and Internet uplink. To increase the performance and stability of these routers, software updates must be installed.

On Monday 07 September 2020 between 05:00 and 06:00 pm, the Freihaus router will be updated; the Gusshausstraße router will follow on Wednesday 09 September 2020 between 05:00 and 06:00 pm. All central services (particularly the Internet firewalls and the central WiFi controllers) will be transferred to the other location beforehand so as not to be affected by the router update; this means that no central services such as the Internet uplink, WiFi, or VPN should suffer from any interruptions. Should you experience an issue with these services within these maintenance windows, please contact the network team: trouble@noc.kom.tuwien.ac.at.
