Maintenance TUnet Backbone Campus DE/DF

Due to a hardware defect, the routers for the buildings Treitlstraße and Operngasse must be promptly replaced. Currently, one of the two routers is switched off, which means that no redundant network connection is available for these two buildings. The building backbone routers will be replaced in a maintenance window on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. During this time, there will be an interruption of all TUnet services in these buildings for up to 10 minutes.

Update 4:00 pm: The maintenace work was finished sucessfully, all services for Campus areas DE and DF are up & running.

The TUnet campus enterprise network infrastructure is being continually adapted to the needs of TU Wien. This replacement creates a modern 100 gigabit Ethernet infrastructure for the aforementioned buildings, to be fit for future requirements uncovered by the advancing digitalization efforts.

Affected are the locations Treitlstraße (DE) and Operngasse 11 (DF). Due to recent hardware issues, the replacement shall take place within a maintenance window at short notice on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. During this time, for a duration of up to 10 minutes, TUnet services such as wired network access for PCs and servers, Wi-Fi services, and TUphone (VoIP telephony) will be unavailable. This is also true for GUT access control systems and cameras. Communication between PCs and the server housing locations DC01G10 and DC02E02 will be limited as well. TU.it datacenter services are not affected.

We shall endeavor to keep the interruptions as short as possible and thank you for your patience.

Once the replacement is finished, the campus Treitlstraße/Operngasse is connected in a high-availability configuration of 4x100 Gigabit Ethernet with the TUnet core and thereby ready to take on future requirements regarding performance and TUnet access port capacity.

No changes on your end systems are required. If you suspect an issue after the maintenance is finished, please check the network settings of your system or contact the IT coordinator of your organizational unit first. Please also check for any relevant information on the TU.it homepage. If the problem persists, send an email to help@it.tuwien.ac.at or contact us under 58801-42002.
