TUWEL Update 5.1

On February 17, 2026, TUWEL, the central e-learning platform of TU Wien, was updated to the latest Moodle version 5.1. This overview highlights some of the key features of the update.

Quick access to TISS enrollment and usability adjustments

A button for calling up the “Get TISS data” function has been implemented on the “Participants” administration page. This now allows you to quickly call up the function that is often needed at the beginning of the semester. Furthermore, usability has been optimized. The update types are now displayed more clearly and the import function for teachers and tutors has been improved.

Filter in TISS grade export

Work on improving the grade export to TISS has continued. The new version includes a helpful filter function for TISS. The filter allows you to add multiple conditions that can also be linked in different ways. This supports nested filter combinations. Another new feature is the optimized placement of the “Export TISS CSV file” button in the action menu of the footer.

Freely scalable display area for task assessment

In the full-screen assessment view of the task, the student submission (e.g., a PDF, an image, etc.) is displayed in the left-hand area and the assessment options in the right-hand area. The width of both areas can be customized in the new version. The layout size can be changed by moving the center divider. 

“Activities” tab supports more learning elements

The “Activities” tab was introduced in the last version. This view helps teachers and learners keep track of everything. However, only a few elements were implemented when it was introduced. The new version now supports significantly more activities: forum, poll, glossary, H5P, lesson, learning package, test, crossword puzzle, offline test, student folder, and consent form.

New functions for manual user registration

Two useful options have been added for manual learner registration: First, learners can be entered into a group immediately, provided that there are groups in the course. Second, the start of course access can be specified even more precisely with the “Start from” parameter.
