SQL licenses

As already communicated by email to all licensees and relevant contact persons, a contractual amendment requires the redesign of our Microsoft SQL Server licenses. The current “MS SQL Server” license (35 € per quarter regardless of the edition and number of cores) will be replaced by the core licenses “MS SQL Server Enterprise /Core” (99 € per quarter for the Enterprise Edition and 2 cores) and “MS SQL Server Standard/Core” (35 € per quarter for the Standard Edition and 2 cores). Effective immediately, only the updated license models will be available for new orders.

The next step is to migrate existing MS SQL licenses. We therefore request that you cancel all MS SQL licenses currently in use by January 2026 at the latest and reorder the corresponding number of new core licenses. The generous transition period is intended to give you sufficient time for careful planning and budgeting. At the end of January 2026, all active MS SQL Server licenses will be automatically canceled.

Office LTSC licenses

Office licenses have been purchased as named licenses (O365) for several years. According to Microsoft guidelines, LTSC licenses are only intended for exceptional cases where named licensing is not technically possible. After a lengthy transition phase, this model is now being implemented consistently. In future, we will therefore request a written explanation for Office LTSC orders. In the event of a Microsoft license check, this must be submitted or verified by the ordering organizational unit.

In addition, the counting method for LTSC licenses has been made binding. As a result, we will have to adjust the price for Office licenses from €10.40 to €15 per device per quarter starting in the fourth quarter of 2025. The price of €10.40 per quarter for the O365 A3 license for 5 devices of the same named user remains unchanged.
