The names of groups, subgroups, users, and projects form a hierarchical namespace in GitLab. This means that for the sake of uniqueness and assignability, these names should not be used more than once, at least on the same hierarchy level. In order to avoid misunderstandings with names, we recommend not using common names like Computer Science, PHP, or Institute Projects, especially for groups. It is recommended to use names that are preceded by e.g. an organization identifier. Especially with public groups or projects special attention must be paid to this.
